Comprehensive Sexual Health Education

 Some students in fifth through 12th grades are scheduled to receive comprehensive sexual health education this school year in accordance with district policy and Washington state law. Families were notified Oct. 6 and Oct. 7.The curriculum is designed to be medically and scientifically accurate, age-appropriate, inclusive of all students, and consistent with state learning standards. This instruction is provided during health/PE classes.How you can review the curriculum We want you to be familiar with what your child may be learning. There are several ways that you can review the curriculum before instruction begins in December.

• View the lesson plans and visit the curriculum providers’ websites:
  • Goodheart Willcox (grades 7-12)
    • Get instructions
  • Great Body Shop (grades 5-6)
    • Get instructions
• Parent Review Night: Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Maple Grove Primary media center (610 B SW Eaton Blvd.)
• Visit your child’s school office during school hours and ask to view the curriculum. No appointment is necessary.
• View the curriculum at the CASEE, Building A, 11104 N.E. 149th Street, Brush Prairie, WA 98606. Hours: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. An appointment is required for CASEE only. Call Paula DeLano at 360-885-5438 to make an appointment.

If your child will participate If your child will participate in all the comprehensive sexual health lessons, you do not need to take any action.Opting out your child If after reviewing the curriculum you want to opt-out your child from receiving some or all of the comprehensive sexual health instruction, you will need to take action by Nov. 15.Get step-by-step instructions for opting out in Skyward.You must opt-out your child for each course, even if you have opted them out in the past. Students who are opted out of comprehensive sexual health lessons will be given an alternate, required health assignment.Learn more about middle school and high school health education.

 Está programado que su hijo/a/s en quinto grado hasta el 12o grado reciba una educación integral en salud sexual este año escolar de acuerdo con la política del distrito y con la ley estatal de Washington. El plan de estudios está diseñado para ser médica y científicamente preciso, apropiado para la edad, inclusivo para todos los estudiantes y consistente con los estándares de aprendizaje estatales. Esta instrucción se proporciona durante las clases de salud/educación física.Cómo usted puede revisar el plan de estudios Queremos que esté familiarizado/a con lo que su hijo puede estar aprendiendo. Hay varias maneras de revisar el plan de estudios antes de que comience la instrucción en diciembre.
